Temperature Told: Hot or Cold?

Using National Geographic Curriculum (www.myngconnect.com), we had a full blast unit learning about seasons and weather.

This big book highlights important words the kids have to know and understand as they explore about weather and seasons.

We learned the different weather tools and then took our focus to THERMOMETER

I had given them opportunity to have a thermometer in their hands and encouraged them to share what they see and feel. An electronic thermometer to explore is also a must.

Look at this little girl who was absolutely curious:) After a minute or two, she was able to share her observations like where the red line is set,  comparing the Fahrenheit and Celsius numbers looking at how they differ. .

Next, we were ready for the experiment.
I prepared three cups of water (cold, warm and iced). First, we looked at the room temperature and drew it on the board before we actually started measuring the temperature of every cup. After placing in a thermometer in each cup, students looked at the red liquid in a thermometer. I asked about their observations encouraging active discussions. It was a fun learning experience for them and myself.

As a class, we recorded our observation on to our Inquiry Book
Temperature Investigation sheet was also provided for individual recording of observation.

Science songs are a fun effective way for kids to learn about science and the world around them. This Thermometer song has a catchy memorable tune   to help students learn about thermometer.

We made our paper thermometer for more fun!
